A WOMAN took her own life because she could not cope with the pain she felt inside, an inquest heard.

Carol Sharples, 30, of Tedema Grove, Burnley, was found dead in the bedroom of her home by her mother on April 24. An empty bottle of pills and a note lay by the bed.

Her mother, Jean Ellison, told the court Carol had suffered a number of problems from an early age, which included self-harm.

She said: "She had taken overdoses before but always rang me and I managed to get to her in time, and she never left a note before. I am quite sure she meant to do it this time. She just could not cope with the pain she felt inside."

A post mortem examination showed a mixture of tranquiliser and anti-depressant drugs in her bloodstream.

East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor recorded a verdict that she had taken her own life.

He said: "She had taken overdoses in the past but had always been found. This time her determination was quite different."
