A JUDGE has praised the success of a police operation targeting street-level drug dealing in Lancashire.
Judge Christopher Cornwall said Operation Nimrod had achieved success in identifying, arresting and prosecuting people involved in supplying.
His comments came as he sentenced a Burnley man to two-and-a-half years in prison. Dale Sherwin, 29, of Westmorland Street, had been committed by magistrates for sentence at Preston Crown Court on two charges of supplying.
The offences were committed on two consecutive dates earlier this year. On both occasions an undercover officer, posing as a buyer, managed to obtain a £10 heroin wrap. Sherwin had no previous convictions for drug offences, but had a long-standing drug addiction, the court was told.
Jonathan Nightingale, defending, said Sherwin had very little recollection of the involvement of police on the second occasion.
On the first date, he claimed that police instigated a conversation.
