BURNLEY are waiting to hear if Bolton will consider allowing Delroy Facey to join the Clarets full time.

Manager Stan Ternent has spoken to Wanderers counterpart Sam Allardyce about the availability of Facey, who has less than two weeks remaining of a three-month loan spell at Turf Moor.

And the Clarets chief is now playing a waiting game until the Trotters boss weighs up his own striking options before coming back with an answer.

Ternent, who earlier this week prematurely ended the loan spell of Reebok midfielder Gareth Farrelly, revealed: "Delroy is injured at the moment, but he's here until the end of the month and I'll see where we can go from there.

"His age is in his favour and he is out of contract at the end of the season, but I'm still unsure where Bolton are coming from.

"I would like to extend his stay and I've had a chat with Sam, who has to decide what he wants to do.

"Then, of course, the most important person in the equation is Delroy himself and what he wants to do.

"It's no secret I want him, but we'll have to see."

Ternent is unable to negotiate an extended loan deal for Facey due to Football League rules, which state that a player can only be transferred on a long term loan if he is under 23 years of age on June 30 prior to the season in which the loan is to take place.

That ruling worked in Burnley's favour when Ternent persuaded Manchester United to part with Luke Chadwick on a season-long loan last summer while the player was only 22.

However, as Facey turned 23 last April, that rules out any similar move, leaving a permanent transfer as Ternent's only option to keep the player at Turf Moor.

Facey has enjoyed his most consistent run of first team action at Burnley since starring for Huddersfield in 2000-01 - a season that saw him score 10 goals and first brought him to Bolton's attention.

The Yorkshire-born striker had made 14 straight starts for the Clarets before a toe injury ruled him out of last weekend's trip to Derby.

He initially took time to adapt after arriving in early September, going seven games without finding the net before finally exploding onto the goalscoring scene with a hat-trick to earn the Clarets a 3-1 win over Walsall.

Facey went on to score in successive games against Ipswich and West Ham, before the goals once again dried up.

However, his age, and the fact he has now scored 23 goals in just 67 career starts, marks him out as a proven goalscorer.

And with Bolton restricting him to just one start since his summer 2002 move from the McAlpine Stadium, Trotters boss Allardyce must surely be tempted by Ternent's offer.
