ONE down, one to go - that's how Bacup Borough manager Brent Peters is viewing his mission to strengthen his squad.

His swoop for Chorley hotshot Darren Emmett has proved to be a masterstroke as the striker has settled in quickly to the side.

But now the West View chief wants to rectify his side's defensive frailties by chasing the signature of former Accrington Stanley defender Darren Quick.

The 30-year-old has been out of the non-league scene after starting his own business.

But Peters, who signed former Manchester United player Karl Brown last week, is hopeful of adding Quick to his troops by the end of the week.

"I addressed our attacking problem by signing Darren Emmett, who has done brilliantly well considering he's not fully match fit," Peters said.

"I'm not happy with what's been happening defensively but I'm going to address that situation now.

"Darren Quick has spoken to me already and shown a keen interest and I'm hoping he will give me the green light later this week."

Peters is hoping Lee Anderson (calf), Steve Stott (back), Rhodri Giggs and Stuart Telfer (both hamstring) will have all recovered from knocks in time for tonight's home game against Curzon Ashton (kick-off 7.45pm).
