IN REPLY to Lancashire police chief Paul Stephenson's letter (LET November 12), I have been a resident of Feniscliffe Drive for the past 30 years and I have yet to see a beat policeman in the area, so how can we lose something that we haven't had?
As a council tax payer I think it's costing quite enough now to live in the home I already own when you consider that it's costing me more than 50 per cent extra in rates than when I had a mortgage to pay.
I don't really know what service we get from the council now when we are responsible for cleaning bottles and tins and placing them outside on collection day with the paper bag and dustbin.
It seems to me that the only thing we don't do is drive the collection vehicle.
As for the state of the pavements in St Francis Road and Feniscliffe Drive, in a word -- a DISGRACE, despite several calls to the police.
B PHILLIPS (Mr), Feniscliffe Drive, Blackburn.
