DESPITE going a goal down, Bacup produced yet another five-star performance to take their tally to 16 goals in four games.

Borough got off to the worst possible start when, following good work by Rhodri Giggs and Darren Emmett, Stuart Telfer had a goal ruled out for offside.

Worse was to follow on just six minutes when Curzon Ashton were awarded a penalty. Paul Davies seemed to win the ball but the referee ruled that he also caught the man and the penalty was converted.

Curzon could have increased their lead when Karl Stanley's attempted pass to Lee Anderson was intercepted. With Bacup's defence caught square, the ball was played in behind but their striker shot over from close range.

From then on, Giggs was involved in creating several openings for Bacup and on 35 mintues he found Telfer, who superbly put the ball beyond the visitors' defence. Emmett latched onto it, closed down by two defenders, his powerful shot got through. The keeper was beaten but Telfer took no chances and applied the finishing touch.

At the start of the second half, Curzon had a chance to make it 2-1 but Davies headed away the danger.

Then, on 58 minutes, Telfer played a quality pass for Giggs to run on to. With bags of ability, he skipped round the keeper and the last defender before being brought down for a penalty to be awarded for the second game in succession.

Captain Steve Stott stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.

Tommy Allen made a quality and important save after Stanley allowed the striker to get the wrong side of him before Bacup added a third.

Telfer supplied Emmett with an inch perfect cross to head past the helpless keeper.

The final goal came when Emmett dispossessed his marker and raced forward before turning provider for Telfer to chip the ball over the keeper and cap a brilliant all-round team display in very difficult conditions.
