CENTURIONS' coach Darren Abram would be happy to see a return to a 'first-past-the-post' format for promotion to Super League.

But the Hilton Park boss also believes that the play-off system should stay - but only to promote a second team into the elite division.

Abram would support a two-up, two-down plan but admits it's unlikely to happen.

A number of National League clubs have expressed their unease at the play-off format and will hold talks with the RFL early in the New Year (see story P71).

Abram says the team that finishes top of the league should be promoted outright. "Any team that finishes top of the pile deserves it's reward. They have been the most consistent team over something like nine months and then to have everything riding on the result of one game isn't right to me.

"I would have the champions going up automatically with a second spot available through a play-off system. That would be just as exciting as it is now.

"But I can't see Super League agreeing to such a radical change."

Leigh players will be car cleaning on December 14 to raise funds for new gym equipment. Fans who want their vehicles given the full treatment should be behind the Mick Martyn Bar between 10.30 and 2pm.

Leigh will play Warrington at Wilderspool in a pre-season friendly on January 4, kick off 3pm.
