THE heavy rain that fell on Saturday morning caused the cancellation of Highfield United's home clash against Dukinfield Town.

Despite the hard work that has gone into the Seedfield Sports Centre surface over the last 18 months it seems last weekend's tough encounter against Prestwich Heys had taken its toll.

Taking a mid-term look at the statistics Highfield have played the least amount of games in the Manchester League Premier Division with only 11 completed.

Contrast that with Irlam Mitchell Shackleton who have played 17!

The feeling in the camp is that the focus must be on turning those games in hand into wins.

Although they have conceded 19 goals the fact remains only 15 have been scored in 11 games.

The problem could be a lack of continuity and the same starting eleven has yet to be fielded in three successive games.

United will be hoping Santa comes early and delivers three points tomorrow when Leigh Athletic are the visitors to Seedfield (2pm).

The second team made the short trip to Heywood on Saturday to take on Milton reserves and ran out 3-2 winners.

Management refused the temptation to field a team of first teamers for this fixture however both Keegan and Derby were among the substitutes in a game affected by the high winds.

Strikes by Griffiths (2) and Clarke secured the points and David Pickering was the Gladwish Man of the Match.

Tomorrow the second team entertain Old Standians reserves at Seedfield (2pm). All first and reserve team players should meet at 12.30pm.

Highfield must begin to play catch-up
