A CHARITY shop is getting all revved up in time for Christmas with an extra special gift to sell.

'Gift It' is a charity shop with a difference and likes to stock the more unusual type of items.

But even manager Ian Shears was taken aback when a regular customer offered to donate his BMW car.

The customer, who asked to remain anonymous but lives in Prestwich, decided to donate the 21-year-old vehicle after purchasing an alternative.

He said: "The car has been on the driveway for the last two years and it needed an MOT. I bought another car earlier this year and was faced with a choice of doing up the BMW or selling it.

"For what the car was worth I didn't want the hassle of selling it."

The generous benefactor visits Gift It, which is based in the old Prestwich Guide office in Bury New Road, every week to drop goods off or pick up a bargain.

Manager Ian Shears said: "We want to encourage people to donate gifts like this and for them to know that it does not have to be a bag of clothes. This was a fantastic gesture and we will put photos of the car in the window. We hope it will raise up to £500. There are 101 ways to market something and, to be honest, we could sell a donkey if we had to!"

Gift It raises money to help local stroke charities.
