TWO Fylde Coast primary schools are among the top 100 in this year's league tables.

Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Primary School, Blackpool, ranks joint 29th and Bispham's Kincraig Primary School is joint 94th in the tables due to be published today (Thursday).

Schools are ranked on the improvement in their level four pass rates in maths, science and English at Key Stage Two over the last three years.

Our Lady of The Assumption's head teacher, Eileen Brierley, said: "It's particularly pleasing. Four years ago we were in special measures and we were in the bottom five per cent of schools in the country."

She said pupils at the Common Edge Road school had worked hard and that teachers had made a 'very important contribution' to the achievement.

Blackpool Borough Council -- the education authority responsible for Blackpool's schools -- said that Key Stage Two results for 11-year-olds across the borough had risen 4.2 per cent in English, 2.3 per cent in science and 1.1 per cent in maths since last year.

David Lund, the council's head of education, leisure and cultural services, said: "We are delighted at the improvement which is the result of the hard work of the children concerned, with the support and commitment of school staff, parents, councillors and advisors and officers from the council's education service."

New 'value added' tables are also due to be published today, which the Government hopes will give a 'more rounded picture' of a school's performance.
