NEW major road schemes for Lancashire formed part of a government plan announced in the House of Commons to spend £50 million on roads and bridges in the next three years.
Work was set to begin on the Preston by-pass in 1956 at a total of £2 million.
A member of Darwen's football team, when it was in much higher company, died aged 82.
Mr Robert Fish, also a noted clog dancer, was in the 1892-3 side which held West Bromwich Albion to a draw at Barley Bank.
