BURNLEY have missed out on an FA Cup windfall after being drawn against either Mansfield or Wycombe in the third round.

The Clarets had been hoping to swell the coffers with a rare home tie against one of the Premiership big guns.

But luck was not on Stan Ternent's side as Burnley were amazingly pulled out of the hat away from home for the eighth successive time in all cup competitions.

Ternent, whose side continued their recent good form over the weekend with a 3-2 league win over Sheffield United at Turf Moor, said: "We would obviously like a home draw, but we haven't had any luck in the cup for some time, so why should it change now?

"We have no control over it, but the main thing is we are in the third round of the cup and it's a chance to progress, so we have to get on with it."

Burnley, who reached the FA Cup quarter-finals last season before being knocked out by Watford, must be favourites to reach round four this time out against a team from the lower rungs of the Football League.

Wycombe, who recently appointed ex-England and Arsenal defender Tony Adams as manager, have won just two of their 20 league games this season and lie rock-bottom of the Second Division.
