SQUIRES GATE...0 CLITHEROE...1
CLITHEROE progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup courtesy of a Neil Reynolds strike.
On 25 minutes a poor punch by goalkeeper Andy Speight presented the ball to Reynolds 35 yards out and his neat chip over the stranded keeper gave the Blues a deserved lead.
He could have doubled the advantage moments later, but this time, from 30 yards out, Speight superbly tipped over his thunderbolt shot.
Squires Gate attacked in the final quarter but still rarely troubled Clitheroe, although with the game into stoppage time they saw a close range shot hit the post.
