BLACKPOOL MECHANICS ...1 COLNE ...3

COLNE returned to league action with a fine 3-1 away win at Blackpool Mechanics to take them back within a point of the league leaders with four games in hand.

As they did last week at Norton, the Reds killed the game in the first 20 minutes, playing some excellent passing football on a very poor surface.

On five minutes it was Carl Haworth who riddled his way through the Mechanics' defence to put Colne ahead. Then it was 2-0 two after 19 minutes when a fine move involving Chris Ingham, James Webster and Ian Simpson ended with Lee Coldridge being released on the right and the wide man drove into the area to slot home.

Colne continued to dominate the game, with Coldridge and Simpson having great chances to increase the margin.

The second half started with Simpson heading just over from a Gavin Cooper cross. But Simpson was rewarded for his hard work when he struck a great shot which crashed into the net from outside the area to make it 3-0 16 minutes into the second half.

Blackpool Mechanics pulled one back when Richard Walton handled the ball in the area but the Reds, in full control played the game out safely to add three more points to their promotion push.

Colne are back in cup action next Saturday when they visit Morpeth in the FA Vase.

A few seats are still available on the team coach, which leaves the Thatch and Thistle, Nelson at 8.45am.
