A MASKED robber held a knife to a pensioner's throat and demanded his wallet.
But the 72-year-old man, and a friend he was with, fought back and the thug escaped empty-handed.
Police are appealed for witnesses following the attempted robbery on Friday in Spenside, Bolton Road, Bury. The victim and his friend were approached from behind at around 5pm.
The thug put his left arm around the man's neck then held the knife to his throat with his right hand. Both men escaped unhurt.
The attacker is described as white, aged in his early 20's, 5ft 7ins, of medium build. He was wearing a dark balaclava, dark coat, blue denim jeans and white trainers.
