REGARDING Shuiab Khan's column 'Don't see old friends as the new enemies,' I would like to express my approval and support for his views.
He's right, being a Muslim seems to be offending a lot of people these days in the light of terrorist attacks (both from Islamic terrorists and the Western powers). We are supposed to constantly condemn the terrorist attacks from the Islamic groups, but not say a word of disapproval when thousands of innocent people are being killed in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan.
The majority of the Muslim people who live in this country are not dumb. They are very much aware of the double standards and perhaps this is the reason why we are not sure who to show loyalty to.
I do not condone acts of violence of any sort. Life would be easier for me if everyone just got along. Unfortunately that's not the case. But there's no way I support Bush and Blair.
I'm not an extremist or a terrorist supporter. I'm just an average human being, working for my living and paying my taxes. I socialise with people, I take an interest in world events. Working in Manchester, I don't experience as much segregation of whites and Asians as I do in Lancashire.
I was pleasantly surprised to read Shuiab Khan's article which expressed a different view to what is normally written.
I hope views like this are expressed more often because it reflects how a lot of people feel. They will also ensure that a crucial section of the Lancashire community do not feel isolated. Keep up the good work!
