POLICE investigating a fatal road traffic accident are appealing for a man they believe may be a vital witness to come forward.

He was captured on CCTV in the waiting area of the accident and emergency department at Burnley General Hospital around 12.50am on Thursday, November 28, where he asked about a pedestrian who had been hit by a car.

Jack Fallows, 71, of Cardinal Street, in Burnley, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital after the accident on a pedestrian crossing on Colne Road, Burnley.

DC Paul Hanson, of Burnley CID, said: "Despite an initial appeal for witnesses this man has so far failed to come forward.

"If what he said at the casualty department is true, then he may well be a vital witness and I would therefore urge him to come forward as soon as possible."

The man is described as white, around 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall and was wearing dark trousers, a padded duffle coat with a fur-trimmed hood and light coloured trainers.

He can contact DC Hanson at Burnley CID on 01282 472241.
