CLIVIGER Guides drew to a close their activities for this year with a meal at Carlo's restaurant in Colne. They enjoyed pizzas, soft drinks and puddings, then received a Christmas gift.

The leaders hope that some of the girls will remember Church Parade on Sunday -- the Guides are providing

mince pies and coffee after the service, and some help would be appreciated! Proceeds to St John's Church.

THE Challenge Steering Committee held its final meeting recently to discuss the draft Action Plan. On Saturday the plan will be officially launched at the Village Hall starting at 11am. Parish, Borough and County representatives will be there to answer questions. Now a good response is needed from residents to support the Parish Council's initiative.

THE Parish Council has approved a design for boundary stones for the parish, estimates of the cost of erecting these are now being obtained. The council is also planning to put up new signs identifying the various areas which make up the parish of Cliviger, such as Red Lees and Walk Mill.

FOLLOWING the felling of trees at The Hollins some time ago, which provoked strong reactions from residents, the parish council was informed that a fine of £300 has been handed down.

AT the November meeting of Cliviger Parish Council, Community Support Officer Johnson said that, due to staffing problems, much of his time had been spent in Briercliffe. He has now, however, been released from this duty and undertakes to spend much more time in Cliviger. He also commended the

community for the low incidence of youth crime and vandalism and gave reassurance that The Holme has been secured after the fire which occurred some time ago.

THIS month's meeting of the Parish Council takes place on Friday at the Village Hall, starting at 7pm. As always, all residents are welcome to attend.

FURTHER meetings are being arranged in connection with the Pit Stop project to provide a cycle park for children. It is hoped that negotiations with Burnley Council will continue and be successful eventually. The Pit Stop group want to provide a safe place, away from traffic, for young children to play on their bikes, and have the full support of the parish council.
