THE Environment Agency has published its proposals for the future regulation of radioactive waste disposal at BNFL Springfields.
The Agency has reviewed existing authorisations at the site in Lancashire and is now seeking comments on a revised draft certificate.
If adopted, the revised authorisation, including a proposed decrease in Springfields' authorised radioactive discharges to the River Ribble, would reduce the radiological impact on people close to Springfields.
The impact of radioactive discharges to the Ribble on the most exposed members of the public would reduce by 48 per cent initially and by 85 per cent from 2008, assuming radioactive waste is discharged up to the maximum of the proposed limits.
