A MOTHER has offered a £1,000 reward in a bid to find out how her daughter was left fighting for life after a night out.

Margaret Leonard, 63, and her family are maintaining a 24-hour vigil at the bedside of mother-of-three Jane Loughlin, who is on a life support machine at Burnley General Hospital.

Jane, 40, of Burnley Road, Colne, was found with multiple injuries, including a fractured collar bone, broken ribs and internal injuries, at the junction of Walton Lane and Leeds Road, Nelson, at 2.50am on November 30.

Police believe she may have been run over while lying in the road.

But they have described what happened to Jane as a mystery and said they want to hear from anyone with information which could help them unravel what happened.

Mrs Leonard, of North Street, Colne, has joined Jane's husband Dave and Jane's six siblings and three children in keeping watch at her bedside in the intensive care unit, even though she has been unable to speak to them since the incident.

Mrs Leonard said: "All we can do is to keep being there for Jane. It's just like a waiting game but we know there's going to be no immediate improvement.

"It's very frightening, but we have to keep telling her to keep up and not let her know we are worried.

"She can definitely recognise us and tries to focus on us and hold our hands, though she can't speak and is heavily sedated.

"I just want someone to come forward with information for the police.

"On a busy main road, we know somebody somewhere must have seen something and all I'm asking is that they come forward.

"I hope the reward can help that. I want whoever might be responsible for this to be brought to justice."

Jane, from Burnley Road, Colne, is an ex-pupil of Fisher More High School, Colne. She is now a housewife and full-time mum to her children who are currently being cared for by relatives.

Det Sgt David Fleming, of Nelson CID, said: "We do not believe at this stage that Jane had been assaulted or robbed. We are not ruling anything out but we believe her injuries are the result of a road traffic accident, though exactly what happened is a total mystery at the moment."

Anyone with information should call Nelson CID on 01282 472643, Burnley Police on 01282 425001 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
