A RARE record made in Leigh 25 years ago has been re-released on CD.

EMI have finally pressed the correct Silver Jubilee Edition of the legendary "Lanky Spoken Here", the album of Atherton writer Dave Dutton's book of the same name.

The record company pressed the CD a few months ago but made the mistake of leaving translations off!

Dave and fellow performer Bernard Wrigley pointed out the error and the disc had to be reproduced.

Dave recalled the hilarious night the original record, which went all over the world, was made in front of a local audience in the Turnpike Gallery.

The cast list included the original Fivepenny Piece, Bernard (the Bolton Bullfrog), folk singer Bob Williamson, Dave, comedian Tony Melody and Leigh folk stars Gary and Vera Aspey. Bernard and Dave wrote the songs.

The Lanky dialect had "English" translations by the top BBC newsreaders Robert Dougall and Sheila Tracy.

Dave said: "Tony Melody went off on one ad-libbing when he had to say "Up at crack o sparrowfart" and had the audience in hysterics.

"Gary and Vera sang the title song "Lanky Spoken Here" and we all joined in -- as did the audience. It was a magic night.

"From the first translation by Robert Dougall, the roof almost lifted off with laughter. He and Sheila must have wondered what they were doing there, but by the end of the night they enjoyed it as much as anyone and we all went out for a curry in Leigh afterwards. Sadly, Robert died some years ago and George Radcliffe out of the Fivepenny Piece died this year.

"We went on to do shows all over the North -- including the Free Trade Hall in Manchester."

Dave added that lots of people had asked about the record over the years but could not get hold of it.

The celebration CD is now available on EMI Gold, number 5840162.
