THIRTY-FIVE millennium babies officially opened a wood created in their honour. The Millennium Baby Woodland in Altham was created by environmental group the Prospects Foundation to celebrate the births of Hyndburn babies in the year 2000.
One tree for every child registered through the scheme was planted at the Burnley Road site.
A display board was also unveiled which gives the names of all the babies registered and visitors were given the opportunity to see other improvements made to the site.
Since the trees were planted in February and March 2002 volunteers have installed four picnic tables, a kissing gate, an easy access ramp and an informal footpath around the site, as well as carrying out general maintenance to the site and trees.
