A £600,000 recycling blitz has been launched in Ramsbottom.

In a bid to meet government targets, Bury Council are making it easier for residents to recycle and save money on expensive disposal costs at the same time.

A new campaign is being launched to promote the campaign which will see new kerbside collections introduced throughout the borough and more Bring Sites set up. These recycling rubbish tips are being introduced at more convenient locations around the neighbourhood, making it easier for residents to recycle.

Bury Council has adopted a new £600,000 programme to increase recycling everywhere in the borough and wants to extend the service to other households by giving them use of recycling centres.

Council bosses say that 60 per cent of the average household rubbish can be recycled, including glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, paper, aluminium, Christmas trees, oil, unwanted clothes, books and furniture.

Councillor Stella Smith, Bury Council's executive member for environment and transport, said: "Throwing away recyclable items costs ratepayers hundreds of thousands of pounds every year, but this could be avoided by householders taking their waste along to their local Household Waste Recycling Centre."

Councillor Neil Swannick, chairman of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority, who is organising the new scheme, said: "People are really keen to discover creative new ways to use their council services which contribute to the quality of the environment for now and future generations."

In Ramsbottom, residents can recycle waste at Household Recycling Centres based at Bury Household Waste Recycling Centre, Every Street, Fernhill, at Prestwich Household Waste Recycling Centre, Clifton and at Radcliffe Recycling Centre, Cemetery Road, Radcliffe.
