I HEARD the news that funding for the Morecambe Goth Festival is to be withdrawn yet again with absolute horror.
Having already had to explain to disappointed Goths at other festivals, who were due to come to the cancelled event last September and who lost out as a result, this latest news could mean the end of the event forever.
Once people find out it is going to be cancelled yet again, many will see the Morecambe festival as discredited and never want to return.
The council's argument that festivals are better run in the summer unfortunately does not hold true.
There are Goth festivals nearly every month of the year and the Morecambe event was carefully positioned so as to avoid clashing with others around the country in Whitby, London, Derby, Bradford and Edinburgh.
It would be hard to get people to come to Morecambe in the summer because of bigger events elsewhere.
The way things are going no-one will want to risk arranging festivals if support is promised one minute only to have the plug pulled later on, after much work has already been done.
