RIBBLE Valley Council is offering householders cheap home insulation.

Residents who insulate their homes can reduce heat loss and cut fuel bills by up to 50 per cent.

Ribble Valley Council has joined forces with London Electric to offer residents loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, cylinder jackets and draught proofing at reduced rates.

For example, cavity wall insulation for a three-bedroomed semi-detached house is on offer at £175, instead of £475.

Loft insulation is £125 compared to £225 with tank insulation at an additional £10.

Ribble Valley Council surveying manager Paul MacNeall said: "New houses are automatically insulated, but older properties were built to lower insulation standards and are therefore more expensive to heat.

"Insulation can result in massive energy savings for the householder, cut down on harmful emissions and add to the resale value of a property."

Cavity wall insulation acts like a tea cosy, preventing heat from escaping from a house and keeping rooms warmer for longer. Loft insulation prevents heat from rising and going straight through the roof, while draught proofing cuts out unpleasant draughts from around windows, external doors, letterboxes, keyholes and cat flaps.
