IT was a proud day for Radcliffe's Mohammed Shafiq when he received a top honour from the Queen.
Mr Shafiq (51) was awarded the Queen's Police Medal when the Queen's Birthday Honours List was revealed earlier this year, and last week he travelled to Buckingham Palace for the presentation ceremony.
Mr Shafiq was accompanied by his proud mother, Razia, his wife, Ismat, and his youngest son, Kamran (12) for Friday's presentation.
He was the first Asian officer in Greater Manchester when he joined the service in 1973. The father-of-three began his career as an operational officer in Bolton progessin through various units including VIP protection.
During his career he received four commendations, the most recent in January for his outstanding work and dedication to the division and CID in particular.
Mr Shafiq retired from the police earlier this year and began a new career in the retail sector.
