ACCRINGTON Stanley captain Peter Cavanagh believes the Reds will be clued up for their FA Cup second round replay against Bournemouth.

And the 22-year-old is confident they have nothing to fear in the return game on Monday night, especially if goalkeeper Jamie Speare maintains the form he showed to secure a 1-1 draw at the Fitness First Stadium last weekend.

"They were always going to have chances because they're a Second Division team," Cavanagh said.

"I think it's a credit to the defence that we held out because they scored quite early in the second half.

"But I have to pay tribute to Jamie because he made an absolutely world class save from a free kick which he had no right to save.

"I think that was one of the turning points in the game and, in the end, with the break that we had we could have nicked it."

Cavanagh was also delighted with the way early changes in the rearguard, following an injury to central defender Jonathan Smith, didn't affect manager John Coleman's game plan.

"We have got talent in the squad and the depth was proved the other week against Barnet when we were missing four players who'd played the majority of the season," the fullback said.

"The players who have come in have made it really difficult for John to make changes."

Cavanagh, who is looking forward to exacting revenge on Aldershot on Saturday following their opening day defeat, added: "Last week showed that, with regard to the football, we're not a million miles away as we stand.

"Bournemouth forced us back and allowed us to sit deep.

"At home, in the Conference, maybe we get caught out a bit more because we've got to go and try to beat teams and that's maybe why we've conceded a few goals of late.

"I know Bournemouth like to play football but I was surprised by how many times they knocked the ball long and diagonally.

"They didn't have many clear-cut chances, and when they did there were blocks and tackles from the defence and good saves from Jamie, so we were really pleased and hopefully we can go on from last weekend's performance and take it into our league form."

Off the pitch, Cavanagh hoped the club's FA Cup run and subsequent raised profile would lead to more people filling the terraces at the Interlink Express Stadium.

"The main difference was the noise of the crowd because you can't really hear each other speaking," he said.

"The fans were fantastic. It's a cliche to say they were an extra man but out there we needed them and they got us through at times.

"In all honesty, they probably outsung their home support, and I hope to see five times as many people at home in the replay."

A LEE Madin goal helped Stanley reserves increase their lead at the top of the Lancashire League thanks to a 1-0 win at Burscough last night.
