I WOULD say 99 per cent of drivers will agree with Eddie Duxbury's letter regarding speed cameras. There is no way the authorities can say that the latest money-making yellow boxes to spring up are in accident blackspots.
It's the same as the speed humps and all that go with them. They are not at blackspots either. It is simply the latest craze of the council 'planners' -- and I use that term loosely -- to cause traffic hold-ups.
Take the traffic lights they installed at Eanam. They had to switch them off again within days because it was causing enormous tailbacks from Furthergate down to the roundabout and all along the adjoining roads in the town centre.
Now there are more traffic lights and, although they have put just a little more planning into them, the situation is heading towards a repeat performance.
I will never understand why they do not make more use of roundabouts which, while slowing traffic a certain amount, do not cause as much build up of vehicles.
