GERMAN defender Sebastian Pelzer has quit Blackburn Rovers.

I can reveal that the 23-year-old full-back has returned to his native homeland where he has joined German lower division outfit Trier.

Pelzer, a £50,000 capture from Kaiserslautern 18 months ago, never made a Premiership start during his time at Ewood, his only appearance coming in a League Cup tie at Walsall last season.

He had become increasingly disillusioned by his lack of first team opportunities and the club agreed to free him from his contract.

"We took a chance on Seb but unfortunately it didn't work out for him here. I'd just like to thank him for his efforts and we wish him well for the future," said Rovers boss Graeme Souness.

Meanwhile, Jay McEveley joined Burnley yesterday on a three month loan but Rovers have the option of recalling him after a month if Vratislav Gresko was to get injured.
