POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a security guard was robbed of £15,000 at an ATM cash point at the Total service station on Ribbleton Lane on Tuesday at 2pm.
A black Mondeo, registration plate W341 YNB stolen from Merseyside, drove up to the security guard who was bashed on the head by the door as it swung open.
The guard dropped the bag of cash and a man wearing a black balaclava grabbed it and made off in the vehicle.
The car was abandoned in Rakes Lane and police believe the robbers then made off in a green hatchback.
The security guard was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated for minor head injuries and later discharged.
Detective Inspector Tony Bolton of Preston CID said: "We know there were several people about at the time. We have some CCTV footage and are appealing for witnesses to come forward."
Anyone with information can call Preston police on 203203 or speak in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
