CENTENARIAN Ellen Williams celebrated her landmark birthday on Sunday with family, friends and the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Wilf Davison.
Ellen lives at Pendle House Nursing Home in School Street, Radcliffe, but is Prestwich born and bred. She is the wife of the late Victor, who died in 1977, with whom she had two children. Ellen, who is described by relatives as "gutsy", is also a grandmother of three and a great-grandmother of five.
She worked in the Handy Corner hardware shop in Bury New Road, Prestwich, during the 1940s to 60s.
Despite her age, Ellen still has an agile mind and is in good health. Until the age of 98 she was living alone in Stanley Close, Whitefield.
