Widnes Tigers 0 Golborne Parkside 29: GOLBORNE Parkside open age team took another step towards promotion after a four week gap without a game.

Playing their first game under the new coaching set up headed by David Tickle, Golborne scored their first point in the first minute when scrum half Andy Simms dropped a goal after an excellent opening set of six from the young pack.

Just three minutes later it was 7-0 as again the pack made massive in-roads into the Tigers defence and loose forward Chris Woods raced over for a try goaled by Simms.

After 21 minutes Golborne increased their lead when prop Gary Dooney finished of some more good team work for a try converted by Simms.

Forwards Kevin Marsden, Gareth Dickinson, Chris Woods and Gareth Sherman outplayed their opposite numbers and were well prompted by the half backs Simms and Kevin Coward.

From a scrum on their own line Golborne substitute Michael Prince powered his way through the Tigers defence and raced to half way to put the supporting stand off Coward racing to the sticks for a try converted by Simms and make the half time score 19-0.

Golborne increased their lead when winger Anthony Spiers scored a classic try. Simms converting from the touch line then adding a penalty goal awarded against Tigers for an offence committed after Spiers had scored.

Golborne introduced substitute half back Leon Davy, and he and Coward combined with winger Craig Timmins before Coward backed up to get his second of the game and 31-0 win.

This Saturday Golborne continue their title push with a home fixture against Blackbrook. kick off 2pm. Players meet 12.15pm.

Golborne 'A' 10, W.Bank 40

With several players missing through work commitments Golborne started the game with only 12 players and were 20-0 down in as many minutes.

Golborne finally got their full complement of players on the park and hit back with tries from hooker Neil Muir and Chris Miller with a conversion from David Hindley. But disaster struck and David Hindley was dismissed for a dispute with the referee and although they put up a brave performance the 12 men conceded 20 more points in the second half.

St Jude's U18 16, Golborne 17

Golborne gained sweet revenge for an early season defeat with a last minute drop goal from Stuart Arkwright giving them victory.

Golborne opened the scoring with a unconverted try from centre Stuart Goulding after a smart grubber kick from Arkwright. St Jude's responded immediately with a try and goal.

Golborne hit back when winger Shaun Hurst caught an Arkwright high kick on the last tackle to score in the corner, Arkwright adding the conversion.

Golborne lost Anthony Irvine and Nathan Bell with injuries but increased their lead to 16-6 when scrum half Tom Smith nipped in for a try from acting half back goaled by Arkwright. The injuries took their toll and St Jude's hit back to level the score. With minutes remaining Golborne drove to the post and Arkwright sealed an other good win.

Golborne U14s continued their push for promotion with a convincing 12 try win over local newcomers Newton Storm. Thirteen-year-old Danny Drury took the man of the match with a good try and seven goals with more outstanding performances from Keating, Parkinson and Tomlins.
