NOT one, not two, but three new signings... and still some folk aren't happy!

The leaked announcement from the club that two Premiership stars would be joining Bradley Orr at Turf Moor before the weekend led some supporters' imaginations to run wild.

I'm not sure if they were expecting Thierry Henry to walk through the door, but in my view it doesn't matter one little bit that the new arrivals are not the biggest names in the world.

We have been speculating all season on how Stan would strengthen the squad - and what I see in Paul Rachubka, Neil Wood and for that matter Bradley Orr, is three young lads all coming down from Premiership clubs with everything still to prove.

The fact they want to do that at Burnley should leave everyone delighted and ensure we get the very best from them over the coming month.

Stan will know exactly what these lads are capable of - and don't think for one minute he would throw them into the mix if he felt they couldn't handle it.

I'm especially delighted to see the midfield problem being addressed. All season it's been a problem area, and because the back four seems to have been tightened up in recent weeks the focus has switched a little further upfield.

New blood means a battle for places - and could even mean a welcome rest for Richard Chaplow who has worked like a Trojan since coming into the side, but understandably suffered a little bit of a dip in form recently.

It makes it a real battle to wear the claret and blue shirt now, and that can only be a good thing.

It's also good to see Brian Jensen having some pressure applied on his own position between the posts.

He has had his ups and downs this season, but I have to say he has been in good form recently after shedding a few extra pounds.

However, every club needs two goalkeepers and we've been fortunate that Brian has stayed injury and suspension free.

All in all, the new lads provide a nice timely boost ahead of the Wigan game, which has taken on extra urgency following Derby's midweek win over Sheffield United.

If results go the wrong way tomorrow, we could find ourselves being dumped into the bottom three for the first time since the opening weeks of the season.

The JJB Stadium is no easy place to go and with the financial muscle of Dave Whelan, they have a huge advantage now over many of their First Division rivals.

But no matter how much their players cost, they can still only put 11 out on the pitch - and no-one likes a challenge more than Stan Ternent.

You can bet that after being unbeaten for four games, he will have everyone fired up for the game, whoever makes the starting line-up.

The FA Cup has been - and remains a welcome distraction. But the battle to stay in Division One starts right here, so let's pull together and get behind the lads.
