BURNLEY manager Stan Ternent reckons Richard Chaplow will relish being in the England spotlight.
Ternent will be among a sell-out 25,000 crowd at Hull City's KC Stadium tonight, hoping to see the tenacious teenager earn the honour of becoming the club's first ever Under 21 international.
England are in transition after missing out on this summer's Under 21 European Championships, with up to 15 new faces in the squad for tonight's friendly clash with Holland.
Chaplow is not expected to make David Platt's starting 11 as the England coach starts to rebuild for the next major championships, still two-and-a-half years away.
But Ternent has no doubt that despite his relative inexperience at club level, Chaplow has exactly what it takes to force his way into Platt's reckoning.
The Clarets chief said: "We are all delighted for Richard and it's deserved recognition because he has come a long way in a short time.
"So long as he keeps his feet on the ground he will continue to do well, but I definitely think he is ready for the step up and he will do okay.
"He can handle it and I'm sure he will play tonight at some stage. I don't think David would have called him up if he wasn't going to have a look.
"He might not start, but I'm pretty certain he will come on at some stage in the proceedings."
Platt himself admits he has been impressed after seeing Chaplow in the flesh several times this season.
The Clarets youngster, still only 19, only signed professional terms earlier this year. But a series of impressive displays in midfield alongside another former England Under 21, Tony Grant, have caught the eye to propel him into the international arena.
Platt revealed: "I have watched Richard play a few times and I was very impressed by his energy and endeavour.
"Since he has been in the squad he has shown an excellent attitude and settled in very well.
"Despite being one of the youngest players, he looks at home in this environment."
