THE general nutritionist standard of children in rural areas was better than in urban areas, commented Dr R.C. Webster, divisional medical officer, in a report on the school health service presented at a meeting in Whalley.

Dr Webster also called attention to defects in school premises, poor sanitary accommodation and inadequate heating.

Meanwhile, it was announced that more money than ever would be spent on Blackburn roads and street lighting in the next twelve months, despite the recommendation that the rate should remain at 24s in the pound.
