SHAKERS fans are hoping to deal their opponents a real blow from the terraces at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

For members of the Forever Bury Trust are hoping that a new consignment of "Woofer" horns will add extra atmosphere to Bury FC home matches.

Another aim is to save wear and tear on fittings, after over-zealous fans took to banging -- and breaking -- seats as a way of generating noise.

The Woofer idea came from club director Iain Mills, who first saw the horns at a friendly match between Manchester City and Jamaica.

Mr Mills said: "I'd seen the Jamaica fans using them and the atmosphere it created is just what I think we need.

"It will be loud. If you have around 20 of those things being blown nearby, then you certainly know about it.

"It was partially about the seats as well. Getting people to blow the horns instead of banging the seats will save us a fortune in repairs."

Although efforts were made to buy the black plastic horns in Bury blue and white, any delivery would have taken months.

The first 100 arrivals at tomorrow's match against Darlington will be able to pick up a free horn, courtesy of Forever Bury.

Later fans will be able to pick one up at a minimal charge.
