TO suggest that 64 per cent of 3,000 people represents a yes vote from the people of Lancashire for higher taxes is ridiculous, if not misleading.

On the one hand, we have the Lancashire Police Authority wanting more cash through the Council Tax to recruit 500 more officers. While on the other, we have Lancashire Road Safety Partnership about to buy even more speed cameras and employ 12 civilian mobile camera operators at £16,000 each.

Since deaths on the road have increased over the last two years along with the increase in speed cameras, doesn't it mean they don't work? 320 cameras by April at £40,000 each -- wouldn't that pay for extra officers?
