The Walker sisters guided Ivy Bank 'A' to an emphatic victory in the Burnley Schools Year Eight Hockey Championship.

For Sarah and Rachel scored the goals that guided Ivy Bank to a successful defence of their title.

The twin attack scored the majority of the 19 goals Ivy Bank rattled in as they won the championship for the second year running in style -- winning all five games without conceding a single goal.

But it was far more than a two girl show as Robyn Bradbury also got in on the scoring act while Ellie Kinlin marshalled the defence superbly. Sophie Hitchin gave a commanding display in goal while Phoebe Hindle and Sarah Mayden played their part in the victory.

Ivy Bank 'A' finished with a 100 per cent record of 25 points, four ahead of runners-up St Hilda's High School.

St Hilda's won four out of their five matches -- usually a record good enough to win the title themselves -- but a 2-0 defeat against Ivy Bank proved to be the championship decider.

Those two goals were the only ones the Saints conceded throughout the tournament which was held at Ivy Bank High School.

But despite the impressive record, they still had to play second fiddle to an untouchable Ivy Bank side.

Ivy Bank kicked off with a 2-0 win against Ivy Bank 'B' before scoring four past a good Habergham High School team.

The third round of matches proved to be the championship decider and it was Ivy Bank who came out of top against St Hilda's. And just to underline their supremacy, they finished with a flourish with a 4-0 win against Townely before hitting a magnificent seven past Walshaw.

The Year Eight tournament has been just one of a series of hockey, netball and football competitions in the annual Burnley Inter Schools Championships.

The competition concludes this week with the Year Seven hockey championship at Ivy Bank on Thursday while the Year Seven netball will take place at Towneley on Monday. The Year Eight and Year Nine girls football will take place at the same venue on the same night.
