BURY Police has lost its traffic unit. However, before motorists start to celebrate, it is only the command structure of the traffic department which has been centralised.
Officers will continue to be based at the Irwell Street divisional headquarters but they now have a bigger patch to cover rather than just the borough.
The North Manchester traffic unit will be controlled from Grey Mare Lane in Beswick.
Bury's head of traffic, Inspector Andy Hudson explained the centralisation programme.
He said: "The change should be seamless. Officers are Bury will continue to work sfrom the headquarters as they do now. The changes are being made to have a more comprehensive force-wide approach to road policing and casualty reduction throughout Greater Manchester.
"We will maintain our response time targets. Officers will be directed to deal specifically with traffic related issues."
