A LOCAL history group is holding a seminar later this year.

This will be the second such evening organised by the West Craven History Society, formed in 2001 as a joint venture between the Earby and District Local History Society and Barnoldswick History Society.

The event will be on Saturday, May 8, at the Rolls-Royce Club, Barnoldswick, from 10am to 4.30pm.

In the morning Dr Mary Higham will be giving a talk on Mediaeval Roads and Vaughan Jones will give a presentation entitled The Leeds and Liverpool Canal Community, Past Present.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to the English Civil Wars, with a talk by Simon Wright entitled The English Civil Wars - Local Events in a Wider Context.

This will be followed by displays by the Sealed Knot Civil War Re-enactment Society, which will demonstrate what life was like for the people in the thick of the Civil War.Members of the public are invited to see the display in the afternoon, from 3pm to 4.30pm, for a nominal fee, which will be payable at the gate.
