SENIOR police officers will be canvassing shoppers' views on crime in Colne tomorrow.

Officers will be inviting people to fill in a Home Office questionnaire called Building Safer Communities in Asda from 2pm to 4pm.

They will also be handing out newsletters about policing initiatives and telling people about work being done in their local community.

The survey will ask for views on local policing issues, how to improve service, ideas for neighbourhood projects and ways of strengthening police accountability.

Regional Home Office crime director David Smith said: "Building Safer Communities targets the issues which really affect people.

"We have achieved remarkable success in addressing problems but there is still a lot of work to be done in the region and we want to be sure we are getting things right.

"We want to encourage a style of policing which is even more responsive to the needs of local communities and create a modernised service which will deliver the results people are really looking for."

Acting Inspector Chris Saville, of Colne Police, said: "We are keen to communicate more with the public and inform them about our work.

"Through roadshows like this one we are able to reach a very wide audience, including people who may otherwise never come into contact with any senior officer.

"This is a great opportunity for people to meet us and tell us what they think."
