CHORLEY Lynx remain rooted at the foot of their group in Arriva Trains Cup after suffering their fifth straight defeat against Oldham at Victory Park.

Once again Lynx were made to pay for a series of unforced errors which cost them tries especially in the early stages of the game.

Lynx made their customary poor start and conceded two tries in the opening eight minutes from Keith Brennan and Nick Johnson with Gareth Barber adding a conversion.

Oldham again made Lynx pay in the 23rd minute when they conceded another penalty and this time from the resulting play Ian Watson sent Paul Southern for a try - Barber adding his second conversion of the afternoon.

Oldham then virtually sealed the game with two tries in the last six minutes of the half.

Firstly Gavin Dodd left the Lynx defence in his wake as he went fully 70 metres to touch down and this was followed by the try of the half from Nick Johnson after he sped past the Lynx defence to latch on to a raking kick from Ian Watson to leave the visitors with a 24-0 half time advantage.

Oldham continued their dominance in the early stages of the second half. They extended their lead two minutes into the half with a try from Neil Roden after Lee Doran had opened up the Lynx defence, Barber adding his third conversion of the afternoon.

Seven minutes later Oldham went further ahead when Nick Johnson completed his hat trick after he slipped through some weak tackling in the Lynx defence, Barber again adding the conversion.

The Lynx were eventually rewarded with a try from Jamie Stenhouse who managed to power his way over the try line. However, four minutes later the Lynx defence was caught out again when a crossfield kick by Ian Watson should have been covered, but it landed in the hands of Will Cowell who touched down.

Lynx had the last word with a try from Eddie Kilgannon after good play from Jamie Stenhouse, Martin Gambles adding the conversion with an excellent effort from the touchline.
