SECOND World War veterans are being urged to finalise their travel arrangements if they want to attend D-Day commemorative events in June.

Anyone who plans to attend the main international parade at Arromanches in Normandy at 3pm on June 6 must complete a registration form and submit it to the Veterans Agency. This will allow the French authorities to issue a security pass to those who want to attend.

In addition, anyone planning to go to France for any other commemorative events between June 4 and 7 must register their interest with the Veterans Agency. Registration forms should be sent to the agency by April 21 .

Access to the Normandy commemorative sites is tightly controlled for security reasons. Unless veterans have submitted a registration form to the agency by the above dates, it is unlikely they will gain access.

Tour operators are responsible for the registration of their tour parties and must provide coach registration details and a manifest. Parking at many of the events will be severely limited because of a lack of space and priority will be given to coaches. It is also important to be aware that traffic restrictions might be imposed at any time by the French authorities. Details from the Veterans Agency Free Helpline on 0800 1692277.
