BIG-hearted fund-raisers have vowed to continue with their money-raising pledge following the death of a 14-year-old schoolgirl from a rare form of cancer.

Staff and regulars at the Black Dog Inn, Oswaldtwistle, had hoped to raise enough money to buy teenager Vicki Scott a computer.

But the youngster, who lived in Oswaldtwistle and was a pupil at Mount Carmel High School and Science College, in Accrington, tragically lost her fight for life on March 14, before they were able to fulfil their aim.

Vicki died in hospital, with her parents Stuart and Julie at her bedside, just weeks after another pupil at the same school also lost her three-year battle against the disease.

Now fund-raisers plan to hold a massive auction this weekend -- and donate the proceeds to Vicki's family.

Up to 50 items have already been donated for the auction, ranging from a remote-controlled toy car to signed merchandise from Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley Football Clubs. A signed football from Accrington Stanley, which has been raffled, has already raised more than £350 for the fund. Now organisers hope to further boost the coffers.

The auction will start at 2pm this Saturday at the pub in Union Road, and will also feature an entertainer, comedian and karaoke.

Melanie Leonard, 38, landlady of the Black Dog Inn, said: "We had initially planned to raise the money for Vicki to buy her a computer. We had already collected a lot of items to auction off and decided after her death that we would continue with it.

"We are hoping we can raise in excess of £1,000 which we will be giving to Vicki's family which they can use to go on holiday, or as they wish."
