AN UNEXPECTEDLY strong Toc H side, bolstered by several first team regulars proved ultimately too strong for Leigh RU Hawks despite an heroic defensive effort.

The home side used the wind well in the first half scoring three tries and kicking a penalty as Leigh could not get out of their own half long enough to threaten the home team's line, leaving the score 22-0 at half time.

The second half started in the same manner as the first with Toc H scoring another try before Leigh finally came to life with tries for Carson and Davies, one which was converted by Greenwood to leave the final score 35-12 and the visitors feeling very hard done by in a game supposedly at 3rd team level, ultimately devaluing the league system.

Tofts 63 Didsbury Toc H 5

The Tofts put on a quality display of controlled rugby to destroy the visitors from Didsbury. They were determined to avenge a defeat at Didsbury earlier in the season where higher team players and a biased referee had cost Leigh the game.

The return fixture was a different story. The Tofts forwards piled on the pressure in the opening quarter with phase after phase of drive, maul and ruck attack. Then, when the ball was switched to the backs, Green and Lawrinson linked superbly to cut holes in the Didsbury defence.

McKeever led the way with a hat-trick, supported by Lawrinson, Leake, Fryer, Dickinson and Yates with one apiece. Number 8 Smith added one for the forwards. Porteous claimed three conversions in gale conditions and Yates notched up a fourth. Lawrinson was awarded Man of the Match by a delighted coach Green.

Waterloo U15s 0 Leigh 17

A superb team performance with the forwards setting the platform, allowing the backs to show off their handling skills.

Leigh used every inch of the wide Waterloo pitch and it paid off with Woods finishing some great passing play. Parrot then dummied and shot over from a ruck. More expansive play saw Baker storm over for Rushworth to convert.

Waterloo didn't lie down and their bigger forwards took on the Leigh pack, but couldn't make inroads. Leigh caused more problems as Woods, Wilkinson and Mikalauskas all denied scores with last ditch tackles. Waterloo bombarded the Leigh line but superb tackling kept them at bay.

Leigh U14s 0 Preston 34

Leigh came up against a big, strong Preston side but Leigh were determined to show how they had improved this season.

Preston attacked from the start but Leigh's tackling held firm with Roberts and Riley putting in some big hits on the Preston forwards. Preston eventually opened the scoring but were to be denied on a number of occasions by good defence by Brown, Innes and Fiendley before they could increase their lead.

Leigh tried desperately to get on the score-sheet and were denied twice by last ditch tackles.
