LEIGH East Councillor Brian Jarvis is in line to become Mayor.
If he is re-elected at the local government elections in June he will be Deputy Mayor and set to become Wigan Borough's supremo in 2005.
He said: "It is a big honour. Becoming Mayor doesn't necessarily mean the climax of a political career. I certainly don't intend taking a back seat."
