SCOOTER riders will rule the roads on Saturday when an amazing convoy of 1,600 machines will leave Lowton on the annual Ginger's Easter Egg Run to deliver gifts to hospitalised children.
Riders from throughout Britain and parts of Europe will travel together through the streets of Lowton, Leigh and Atherton on a mercy mission to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital at Pendlebury.
It will be the 18th such trip for some of them, including organiser Kevin Ginger Lawton from Atherton.
Bolton Spartans Scooter Club member Ginger and his self-confessed scooter nut wife, Caroline, are the driving force behind the run which Ginger started in 1987.
"Today's event is a well-oiled machine with full police escort and masses of publicity. Last year's event saw 2,000-plus scooters, riders and pillions deliver over 3,000 Easter eggs and toys," she said.
The ruin is the highlight of a weekend rally based at Lowton Civic Hall where there is a free camp site, a daytime custom show, kids' games and discos on both nights.
