LEE FRANCIS DUFFY, 30, of Sandy Lane, was remanded on bail until April 15 by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to five offences of shoplifting.
Kevin Preston, defending, asked the magistrates to adjourn for the preparation of pre-sentence reports and so that Duffy could be assessed for a drug treatment and testing order.
He said Duffy had previously tackled his drug addiction on his own and had been winning the battle.
"It is very disappointing to see him here today," said Mr Preston. "He now accepts that he needs help to beat his addiction. There is no helping people in his position unless they want to help themselves and he clearly falls into that category. A drug treatment and testing order would give him the motivation to stay of drugs and go through rehabilitation and while it is an onerous order he is anxious to take part."
The magistrates ordered the preparation of reports and the assessment.
