THE Blackburn and District CTC racing squad chalked up two more team wins in events held in some terrible weather conditions.

Saturday was particularly bad with gales and hail driving across the exposed parts of the course used for the Pendle Forest promotion of the Circuit of Ingleborough.

Nevertheless, Ian Stott of Clayton-le-Moors excelled himself with a superb ride of 1h 12m 11s which gave him third place only three seconds behind Paul O'Mahoney of Ulverston.

Dave Collinge took an excellent fourth place in 1h 13m 28s and Dave Ebbrell ninth in 1h17m 34s the local club were easy team winners.

Fastest was Gethin Butler of Preston in 1h 11m 01s which was 10 minutes down on his own course record due to the conditions.

The following morning, the weather was somewhat better for the Ribble Valley 19 mile event around one lap of Longridge Fell and although Butler was again fastest in 46m 56s and O'Mahoney second in 47m 49s.

Collinge was the best of the Blackburn-based team in fifth place with 49m 20s with Stott down to ninth in 49m 44s and with Ebbrell 11th in 51m 14s the CTC took their second team win in two days.

However, Peter Greenwood of the Clayton Velo and Burnley did an exceptional ride for a 50-plus Veteran to take seventh place in 49m 34s to win his age category, and Billy Rodgers of Blackburn returned 49m 44s for eighth place and fastest Vet 40+ award.

The Lakes and Lancs SPOCO series, of which these were counting events, moves to Carlisle on Sunday and the big interest will be in the entry of ex-World Hour record holder Graeme Obree of Scotland who is making a comeback to the sport.

The Clayton Velo continue their Spring Series at Scale Hall, Lancaster on Saturday and ending on April3rd.

Entry on the line is possible and the start time is 10am.
