LEIGH CENTURIONS...66 SWINTON LIONS...6: LIONS were routinely put to the sword in the old Roman Coliseum, and it was the same at East Lancashire's modern equivalent, as the Lions crashed to their biggest defeat so far, at Leigh, in the Arriva Trains Cup.

Lions' coach Paul Kidd, said "Only eight of my 17 players can come out of that match with any credit.

"I'm not going to name them, but after I've looked at the video, they will find out on Tuesday.

"You can't compete against a team like Leigh when only eight players want it."

It took the Centurions just six minutes to open the floodgates, Paul Rowley crossing under the posts, with Neil Turley converting.

John Duffy then created a try for Dan Potter to make it 10-0 after a 15 minutes.

Further first half tries from Chris Percival, Duffy and Ian Knott (two), together with four more Turley conversions, made it 34-0 at the break.

It wasn't much different after half time.

Duffy completed his hat trick, so did Knott, and Percival got a second. And Turley added three more goals to make it 56-0 before the Lions scored.

Just short of the hour mark, the Lions stand out player Danny Heaton, took four Leigh defenders over the line to touch down. Former Leigh favourite Craig Wingfield added the goal points.

Lions then tightened things up and it wasn't until the final eight minutes when Damian Munro crossed twice, that Leigh could pile on more misery.

Another Turley conversion brought up the final score to end a miserable afternoon for the Lions.
